On Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, patrons, employees and news crews observed as former president and current Republican candidate Donald Trump visited a McDonald’s located in Feasterville, Pennsylvania.
Trump had a planned arrival at the McDonald’s in order to deliver food to 5 preselected cars outside the McDonald’s. Employees instructed the former president on proper procedures for preparing fries alongside proper sanitation routines. Upon putting on his apron, Trump remarked that, “It requires great expertise, actually, to do it right and to do it fast,” according to Mark Levy of AP News.
However, this visit was not purely to deliver fast food as Trump had really come to discredit his opponent, Kamala Harris’ apparent “middle class upbringing.”. Trump had reportedly told one of the customers that, “I’ve really wanted to do this all my life. And now I’m going to do it because she didn’t do it,” quotes Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Inquirer. This stunt was also used as an impromptu news conference where Trump could answer questions on television with the selected drivers.
Democrats reacted quite negatively to this visit however, with Kamala Harris’ spokesman Joseph Costello stating that the visit “showed exactly what we would see in a second Trump term: exploiting working people for his own personal gain.”
Additionally, the discreditment of candidate Harris’ work experience at the franchise, admittedly over 40 years ago according to Harris in an interview on MSNBC, has left many wondering about the validity of Trump’s criticism.
Pennsylvania has long been known as an important swing state in presidential elections, making it an important field in which Democrat and Republican candidates clash for the state’s support. This is just one of many visits that occurred by presidential candidates in the state of Pennsylvania in the hopes to garner the support of the residents in itsit’s various counties.
