Here’s what to know: Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican singer from 1981 to 1995.
Selena was a very popular singer with a huge fan base, which became hard for her to manage because she was writing songs and constantly driving from state to state.
Selena thought it’d be a good idea to hire someone to take over her fan club while she was on her tour. So she hired Yolanda Saldivar to take over the fan club.
Everything with Saldivar was going fine, so Selena thought, but Saldivar was secretly stealing money from the fan club and being very secretive, and she was also overly obsessed with Selena.
Selena never suspected anything coming from Saldivar until Selena’s family started suspecting strange behavior. On March 31, 1995, Selena tried talking to Saldivar, which ended up turning into lies that Selena quickly caught on to.
At the moment, Selena told Saldivar she didn’t want her working for her anymore, which got Saldivar very angry. As Selena was walking away, Saldivar pulled a gun out and shot Selena, and unfortunately, Selena passed away that day.
Afterwards, she was put on trial and three days later was sentenced to 30 years of life in prison.
Now, in the current time, Saldivar was eligible to apply for parole but was denied on March 27, 2025. The next time she’ll be able to apply for parole is set to be on March 30th, 2030.
Selena’s family responded to the court hearings and said, ‘Today, we are grateful that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has chosen to deny parole for Yolanda Saldívar,’ wrote Selena’s family members and her husband, Chris Pérez, in a joint statement. ‘While nothing can bring Selena back, this decision reaffirms that justice continues to stand for the beautiful life that was taken from us and millions of fans around the world far too soon.’
I feel it was right for Saldivar to get denied parole; she killed Selena for no reason, but was also stealing from her when all Selena did was help her.
In the outside world, I feel it’s safer for Saldivar to stay in prison due to how much hate she has gained throughout the years, and people have even gone so far as to send her death threats or just general threats.
Now we’re left wondering what will happen in 2030, will she be denied again, or will she be let go on parole?
