Shane Pryor is 17 and is described as a Black male, of light complexion, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds.
According to CBS News, Pryor escaped from staff just before noon on Wednesday, Jan. 24 in the Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia’s emergency room parking lot at 34th and Spruce Streets. He was transported to the hospital from the Juvenile Justice Center in West Philadelphia because of a hand injury.
Sources told CBS News Philadelphia Pryor wasn’t restrained or handcuffed on the way to the hospital and when he got out of a vehicle and fled. The right shows him at 14 and the left shows him a 17
CBS News said, when Pryor was 14 he, “…shot Tanya Harris in the head after he and another male tried to solicit sex from her on the night of Oct. 10, 2020.” He is now an inmate at the Juvenile Justice Center in West Philadelphia.
According to Pryor’s mother, he ran because he was scared and since he has been in the juvenile center since he was 14, that he is still a 14 year old mentally, but in a 17 year old body. She also said she feels that her son is innocent and that the juvenile justice system had failed her.
Pryor’s mother also said, “There was a co-defender involved in the case who may be the shooter, and Shane is terrified of him and he’s at the prison where Shane is, may likely go in two weeks. That’s what he’s scared of. That’s what he’s running away from.”.
Police say that an 18 year old named Michael Diggs picked up Pryor in a cream colored Ford on Wednesday after he escaped. But it’s not clear when or where the pick up happened.
Philadelphia police say that they stopped the Ford, there was no sight of Pryor, but they took Diggs in for questioning.
According to CBS News, on Friday, Jan. 26, Michael Diggs was charged with hindering apprehension, escape, criminal use of a communication facility and criminal conspiracy.
Sources told CBS News Philadelphia’s Joe Holden that Pryor contacted someone and got a ride from them, and they dropped him in the area of Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. They are still working to confirm if Michael Diggs is that person.
CBS News states that on Sunday it was updated that the U.S. Marshals Service had captured Shane Pryor on Sunday Jan. 28 after 6:30 p.m., just after five days on the run.
According to CBS News, “The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said Pryor has been charged with escape, aggravated assault, hindering apprehension and related offenses for his escape. Pryor is also charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and related charges for an alleged assault on a teacher inside the Juvenile Justice Services Center on Jan. 9.”
Pryor is now being taken to a secure facility until his trail for the 2020 murder of Tanya Harris.
According to Clark, Pryor’s attorney, this is the seventh escape case that the U.S. Marshals had to work on in the last 12 months.
With all the past escapes from prisons and juvenile centers, it makes the public worried about what could happen to them.
