The New York Knicks have had another excellent season under Tom Thibedou and the magnificent play from Jalen Brunson. New York’s record stands at 41-27, as they are half a game over the Orlando Magic.
Despite the success, the Knicks have dealt with the injury bug all season and now we will evaluate players’ injuries and their timetables to return.
- Mitchell Robinson
Mitchell Robinson has been out quite some time now, sustaining an ankle injury on December 8, 2023 against the Boston Celtics.
Originally marked as out for the complete season, there have been encouraging updates as Coach Tom Thibedou said Robinson can run and jump now and is not doing contact “but that should be coming soon,” via Fred Katz.
If everything goes well, Knicks fans can hope to see Robinson make a return to the floor by the end of the season.
- Julius Randle
Julius Randle has also been a player out for a long time. The Knicks two-time all star dislocated his shoulder on January 27 against the Miami Heat, and was originally set to be re-evaluated in early February.
Randle being the competitor he is, opted to not do season-ending surgery and instead has been going through physical therapy for the last few months.
His progress has been steady and Randle is preparing to be cleared for full contact practices, even though a timetable for his return is still unclear.
The Knicks organization and the fans are hoping that Randle returns soon because of his vital role in New York’s playoff push this year.
- OG Anunoby
OG Anunoby arrived to the Knicks at the beginning of the new year where he was involved in a trade sending R.J Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors. Although Anunoby has played very well when healthy, health is just the problem for him.
Dealing with elbow inflammation in January and early February, Anunoby went through successful surgery in February to remove a loose bone fragment in his right elbow.
After two months of recovering, Anunoby finally made a return in early March but is now dealing with more elbow inflammation.
His timetable as of now is unclear, but Anunoby in the short time he has been in New York has made a great impact on the team and is crucial for this year’s playoff run.
Now in the final games of the season, these impactful players mean a lot to this upcoming playoff run for the Knicks and the organization hopes everything can get sorted before then.
