Lyle and Erick Menedez are brothers who brutally murdered their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez in 1989 and are now in jail for what they did.
According to People Magazine, The brothers shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home on Aug. 20, 1989. The case first seemed like a family drama and that the boys just wanted their parents’ money, but as the boys started to share their stories during the trial, it revealed a web of abuse, trauma and financial motives.
During the trial, which took place over several months, the defense painted a scary picture of the brothers’ upbringing, claiming they were victims of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their father. Testimonies from childhood friends and mental health experts sought to establish a context for the tragic events.
Netflix made a series called Monsters The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story trying to bash the brothers and made incorrect narratives on the brothers story and made them seem horrific. That same week the brothers came out with a documentary called The Menendez Brothers to share their story.
According to NBC News In September, Kardashian met the Menendez brothers at their San Diego prison.
According to NBC, News Kim Kardashian said, “The Menendez brothers were granted a second chance at life and will wake up tomorrow finally eligible for a parole hearing,.”
Kardashian, a longtime social justice reform advocate, wrote on her Instagram Stories following the Oct. 24 press conference. “Thank you, George Gascón, for revisiting the Menendez brothers’ case and righting a significant wrong.”
“Repeated, continuous episodes of experienced trauma can alter a child’s brain chemistry,”. Mrs. Saliby said, Pedophiles have no place in our society, and if it so happens that a pedophile were to die by the hands of the child they traumatized, that is a favor to our legal system and our society. To punish the victim again by charging them with murder reveals a society that is not fully morally evolved.”
As Lyle and Erik Menendez began their life sentences, the media talked about their case and continued debates about justice, mental health, and the legacy of abuse.
“They did not deserve what happened to them. They should have gotten help instead of choosing to murder their parents. They had so much built up trauma and that was their reaction to it. I hope they get the help they need one day,.” Imanie Figoura said.
According to CNN US More than three decades after Lyle and Erik Menedez were convicted of the murders of their parents and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the brothers now see a path to their potential release.
“I will never excuse murder, and those were brutal, premeditated murders,” Gascón told CNN Thursday. “They were appropriately sentenced at the time when they were tried. They got life without the possibility of parole. I just think that given the current state of the law and given our assessment of their behavior in prison, they deserve the opportunity to be re-evaluated and perhaps reintegrated into the community.”
Lyle and Erik Mendez have some important events coming up to see if they are set free or not keep up with the news articles.
