According to the Daily Tribune, in honor of Spongebob’s 25th anniversary, popular fast-food chain Wendy’s has created a program called, “The Krabby Patty Kollab.”
The Kollab is supposed to be Wendy’s attempt at recreating the famous Krabby Patty, as seen in the show. The offer began on Oct. 8, 2024, and will only be available for a limited time.
The differences between the Krabby Patty and a normal Wendy’s burger are minimal, with the only noticeable difference being the secret sauce that they put on the burger.
There is, however, a special Spongebob themed frosty included with the meal, flavored with pineapple and mango in reference to his iconic house.
Overall reception of the Krabby patty has been poor, especially for fans of the series who were expecting something with more effort put into it.
The meal was in fact done in such a way that it’s easy to manufacture.
An interview by ABC7 news said, “Using two foods that largely already exist on the menu makes it easy for employees to assemble the specials.”
An unnamed sophomore at Salisbury high school had this scathing review to give, “Lowkey nasty, especially for twelve bucks, it was the wendy’s version of the big mac, nothing really changed. The frosty wasn’t even mixed thoroughly, it was just vanilla frosting, then pineapple juice at the bottom. The fries were good, but it’s hard to make them bad.”
Social media influencers, such as youtuber and streamer MoistCritikal, have similarly negative reviews regarding the special meal.
“It’s just a Wendy’s burger, there’s nothing really special about it at all,.” MoistCritikal said.
Wendy’s is yet to respond to this backlash, and is continuing to sell the meal as is.
