On Aug. 12, 2025, Taylor Swift announced her brand new album “The Life of a Showgirl.” Then, on Aug. 26, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement.
On Aug. 11, Taylor Swift had set a countdown on her website set to expire on Aug. 12 at 12:12 am. At the expiration of the countdown, a title was announced; however, no cover art was provided. Then, on Aug. 13, Taylor Swift was featured on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, where she announced the cover art of her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Since her announcement, she has released 10 variants, both vinyl and CD. The Tiny Bubbles in Champagne, Baby, That’s Show Business, and The Shiny Bug, each with two variants, comprise six vinyl variants, which may seem like the end. However, Target is releasing a variant vinyl called “Sweat and Vanilla Perfume,” making a total of seven vinyl variants. Additionally, it is releasing “It’s Beautiful, It’s Rapturous,” and “It’s Frightening,” which make up the three CD variants.
The album will be released on Oct. 3, and Target has reported that over 500 stores will be staying open past 12:00 for the release in order to sell more copies as it is released. Also in the Target variants will be a booklet containing never-before-seen pictures and lyrics, different for each variant.
Before this album, Taylor had released 11 other full albums and rerecorded four of her albums. In order from first to last, there’s her self-titled album, Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and The Tortured Poets Department, and she rerecorded Fearless, Speak Now, Red, and 1989, and was rerecording Debut when she was able to buy her masters back. Not owning her masters was the reason for her rerecording her first six albums in the first place, and with the rerecords, she released other songs not chosen for the original album.
On Aug. 26, Taylor Swift posted pictures on Instagram of herself and Travis in a garden, with the caption “Your gym teacher and your English teacher are getting married. 🧨” They posted several pictures, including Travis on one knee, a close-up of the ring, and the couple lounging on a couch surrounded by flowers.
“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce said in an interview with Cleveland News 5. Therefore, the proposal should have happened right around the announcement of The Life of a Showgirl, which explains the later announcement. The post has garnered 37.1 million likes and continues to climb.
