I’ve been on a journey to find the best matcha, and I believe I’ve become quite the expert over the past year! After trying several places, I’ve narrowed it down to my top three favorites, complete with descriptions, locations and pictures I’ve taken myself. I selected three distinct locations: one an hour away, one right in Allentown and a third 30 minutes away. I hope you get a chance to check them out yourself!
- Blank Street Coffee – The Green Room Soho, New York City
I have been eager to try Blank Street Coffee in New York City, and regardless of the distance, it was the best, creamy, flavourful matcha ever. I do not like my matcha to be too sweet anyway; I always want my matcha to taste like ceremonial grade (the pure matcha) and for the flavor not overpower the matcha itself. I got the Pistachio Matcha, and it was honestly a really good impression, and I enjoyed it. I would try something simpler next time, but I definitely recommend trying Blank Street Coffee whenever you’re up in New York! Cost: approximately $7.00.
2. Nowhere Coffee – Allentown, Pennsylvania
This is my go- to- spot. I love their matcha deeply, and they have many flavors to choose from, like lavender, vanilla, brown sugar and banana! They are very diverse, and their matcha is not too overpowering, while also not being too sweet either. I have tried Nowhere Coffee many times, and it feels like every time I get their matcha, it gets better every time. Also, the staff are incredibly friendly, and always compliment me and my friends. I would definitely recommend this spot, and they have great seating as well, so it is a very good studying location. Cost: approximately $6.50.
3. Plants + Coffee – Easton, Pennsylvania
I have gone to this location three times, and I never regret the drive. One con about the matcha is that it can be too sweet at times, and on occasions, I can taste the flavor more than the matcha itself. However, this place is great for “sweet treats,” and they also serve food like cheeseburgers, grilled cheeses and bagels. They have so many flavors to choose from, ones you wouldn’t expect! From mango and peanut butter to s’mores and ube. This place is also really aesthetically pleasing inside, and it has a little room in the corner with a bookshelf, made for studying and enjoying yourself while sipping on matcha. I would definitely recommend this place if you enjoy matcha on the sweeter end. Cost: approximately $7.50.
